WWE News: WWE Network To Expand Globally Soon

According to Wrestlezone.com, the WWE Network is due to launch in the United Kingdom ready in time for Summerslam. When the Network was launched in February, it was only officially available to residents of the United States of America. At that time it was expected that the WWE Network would launch in the UK by the end of the year, along with some other key international markets.

Wrestlezone suggest that ideas within the WWE is to launch the Network, either a few weeks before Summerslam or on the actual weekend of the biggest pay per view of the Summer. From a business standpoint, it would make sense to launch the network the week before Summerslam, in order to get fans to “panic” buy before the event. One key issue from rolling the Network worldwide was licencing and the ability to stream to a large number of people before the “kinks” have been ironed out.

The news of the expected UK launch of the WWE Network comes as a response due to the recent financial issues facing WWE business this past week. Shares have dramatically dropped in response to the television deal and the lower than expected WWE Network subscribers. As a result, WWE is quickly picking up the pace on launching the Network in other international markets. WWE need 1 million subscribers to the Network to break even, after Wrestlemania, WWE had over 650,000. With the popularity of WWE in the UK, a large chunk of the missing numbers should easily be reached.

As a wrestling fan in the UK, I am massively excited to sign up to the WWE Network, despite owning the very large WWE DVD collection. The ability to watch Pay Per Views and other shows like Legend’s House and the new Tough Enough at my fingertips via my PS3 and other devices will be incredible.

****Spoiler Warning****

On this weeks Smackdown, recording from the O2 Arena in London, WWE Hall Of Famer and legend, Hulk Hogan made a special announcement to the UK crowd. He announced that the WWE Network will be coming to the United Kingdom very soon, however made no specific announcement when it is expected.
