Stone Cold Steve Austin WWE Contract Expired
He might be one of the biggest names in WWE history, however you may have noticed that the Stone Cold podcast has not appeared on the WWE Network since August. Why is this important? We are about to find out.
Stone Cold Steve Austin, a six time WWE Champion retired from in ring action back in 2003. Since then, Austin has been involved in plenty of projects. His Broken Skull Challenge and his weekly Podcast has been a huge hit. With the launch of the WWE Network in 2014; WWE needed quick easy programming. Already signed to a legends contract, Stone Cold podcast was brought onto the airwaves. The likes of Mr McMahon, Paul Heyman, Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles being featured. However ever since August 2016’s episode involving Dean Ambrose; Austin has not be invited back.
Reports in February indicated that WWE were unhappy with the way that Austin conducted the interviews. With the “realness” of the shows being a factor; claiming it was diverting away from the intended content for the WWE Universe. This is nothing new, Vince McMahon was rather vocal about Austin’s interview with Triple H back in February 2015. Dean Ambrose was the final straw.
Fans may have also noted that Stone Cold wasn’t present at WrestleMania 33 in a performing or even attending the show. The Wrestling News Observer is suggesting that Austin’s contract with the company to produce the Network podcasts has not been renewed. DDP had suggested Austin to induct him to the Hall Of Fame, another suggestion Eric Bischoff was chosen instead.
