WrestleMania 33 Preview: Smackdown Live Matches

WrestleMania 33 is a super stacked card with matches from Raw, Smackdown and 205 Live. Taking place from the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida this upcoming Sunday. On the Smackdown Live side of things, Randy Orton will challenge Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship. Whilst AJ Styles and Shane McMahon will go one on one. Today we look at the WrestleMania 33 Preview for the Smackdown brand.

The Miz & Maryse vs John Cena & Nikki Bella

Anyone remember the main event of WrestleMania 27? A fair number of you will, however The Miz will ensure that everyone remembers. As an unlikely WWE Champion, The Miz defeated John Cena in the ring. In what should have been a defining moment for The Miz, started a massive downfall into obscurity. Fast forward to 2016 and The Miz  has been solid in every area during his reign as Intercontinental Champion. Throughout 2017, The Miz has been John Cena’s thorn in the side, executing verbal battle after verbal battle. At WrestleMania 33, John Cena will team with Nikki Bella to face The Miz and Maryse.

Lucas’ Take: Let’s face it, both men and women have been on fire in the past month. The Miz, jealous of John Cena’s success along with his wife has been compelling television. If you missed The Miz’s rant on Talking Smack you need to watch it soon. WWE have a choice to propel The Miz into the SmackDown main event picture if he can secure a victory over the 16 time world champion. Being WrestleMania, the feel good factor may play in. Honestly The Miz should pick up the win.

Smackdown Women’s Division Match
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Natalya vs. Mickie James vs. Carmella (with James Ellsworth) vs. others TBA

Two time SmackDown women’s champion will defend her title against at least 4 other women at WrestleMania 33. Continuing her feuds with Becky Lynch, Mickie James and tensions with Natalya. It’s expected that Naomi will also return from injury.

Lucas’ Take: After such promise Smackdown women’s division gets the WrestleMania after thought award. Sadly the title deserves more than a multi women match. Let’s hope that the Women get a decent amount of time to showcase the talent that they have. I’d like to have Natalya finally win the title after a 6 year gap.

Andre The Giant Battle Royal Match

A tradition since WrestleMania 30, the Andre The Battle Royal will take place once again. Thus far not too many names have been announced, however expect anyone who hasn’t got a role at WrestleMania to take part.

Lucas’ Take: Such a great idea, now secured to the pre-show slot for immortality. Last year saw a shocking victory by the Lone Wolf Baron Corbin. Of course anything can happen, let’s hope The Big Show doesn’t win.

Intercontinental Championship
Baron Corbin vs Dean Ambrose (c)

Writing this article I had actually forgot Dean Ambrose was Intercontinental champion; in fact that is a shame. However for the first time since WrestleMania 28, the IC title will be defended in a singles match on the main card. Rather than a multi-man ladder match or being relegated to the pre-show. Backstage talk indicates that Dean Ambrose wants redemption on the lackluster match with Brock Lesnar. Baron Corbin, is young and hungry to showcase his talent; a Mania match with Dean Ambrose is the perfect remedy.

Lucas’ Take: A Baron Corbin victory makes complete sense, Dean’s run as champion has been pretty forgetful thus far. Corbin will easily being a SmackDown main eventer by the end of 2017; having a WrestleMania moment will cement that.

Shane McMahon vs AJ Styles

AJ Styles believes he should headline WrestleMania 33. Feeling betrayed by not receiving his one on one WWE Championship rematch and being screwed by number one contender matches. AJ Styles took his frustration out on Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon; brutally attacking Shane backstage. Adding more fuel to the fire, the Phenomenal one threw Shanes face into a car window, forcing Shane to challenge AJ.

Lucas’ Take: AJ Styles has been Smackdown’s MVP and fully deserves a big WrestleMania match. Shane McMahon’s shocking return for last years Mania took many by surprise and showcased why he was a crazy SOB. Whilst the match was rushed together it all makes sense. Hopefully the match will not be contained to a simple singles match and AJ Styles can shine at the Grandest Stage of them All.

WWE Championship Match
Bray Wyatt (c) vs Randy Orton

As Smackdown Live switched to Tuesday nights back in July; Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt were tearing up the ring week after week. Following some PPV matches, Bray Wyatt managed to convince Orton to join him. A dominating force was born, securing the WWE Tag Team titles at TLC in December.  Randy Orton won the 2017 Royal Rumble match, punching his ticket at WrestleMania. However following Bray Wyatt’s WWE Title victory at Elimination Chamber, those plans were changed. Several number one contender matches and a burnt house later, Randy Orton secured the opportunity to face Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 33.

Lucas’ Take: One word describes this feud perfectly; time. This feud have been going on for a best part of nine months, however the slow burn has paid off brilliantly. Bray Wyatt fully deserves his WWE Title and for the finale match to take place at WrestleMania 33. This will be a compelling match and very excited to see how it pans out. Bray Wyatt needs the victory and no doubt continue this vicious feud continue.
