Dave Batista has recently opened up about his 2014 return to the squared circle. Following a four year abscence from WWE, Batista returned to win the Royal Rumble and headline WrestleMania. His final feud was to reallign with Evolution to face The Hounds of Justice The Shield, something Batista he regrets.
In an interview with MLW Radio, Batista revealed that he massively regretted going into an angle with The Shield instead of Daniel Bryan. Following his loss to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30, option A was for Batista to face Bryan at Extreme Rules. Given the fan reaction to Daves return the idea was scrapped; instead opting to go ahead with reuniting Evolution.
Dave regrets not facing Daniel Bryan, who would face Kane in his only WWE Title defence before injury plague Bryan into eventual retirment.
“I did the thing with Daniel Bryan. Let me tell you the reason I was pissed about the whole thing, the reason why, because I didn’t want to work with him at the next pay-per-view. I wanted to work with [The] Shield. I wanted to do the Evolution thing, so it wasn’t anything against Daniel Bryan and it wasn’t because I loved Evolution so much. I wanted to do the Evolution thing and that’s what kills me.”
Despite the regret, Batista only had praise for the Shield. This feud with Evolution helped paved the way to all three men becoming WWE Champion. Dave felt that the Shield could have ran much longer tham it lasted.
“And then, the whole thing with The Shield, like, I love that whole run, man. I loved working with those guys. The thing is, we put them over like a million bucks then they split them right up.”
