Huge WWE Battleground Main Event Announced

WWE’s next Pay Per View event is WWE Battleground; held at the Verizon Centre in Washington DC on July 24th. Following an incredible Money In The Bank PPV this past Sunday, WWE have pulled out the most anticipated main event in recent memory for WWE Battleground. A Shield triple threat match and boy it should be immense.

How The Shield Triple Threat Happened

Following an attack by Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules 2016, Roman Reigns defended his WWE World Heavyweight championship at Money In The Bank. In his first match back since injury, Seth Rollins pinned “The Guy” with a Pedigree to capture his second WWE World Championship. The celebrations were interrupted by Dean Ambrose; who hit Seth with his recently captured Money In The Bank briefcase. Dean cashed in his championship match, one Dirty Deeds later and Dean Ambrose has finally captured the title.

Finally, after 2 years of breaking up the most popular faction in recent memory all three members of the Shield have become World Champions. More fascinating is that all three members held the gold within 3 minutes of one another.

The Shield Debut

The Shield captured the fans imagination from the moment they attacked John Cena and Ryback at Survivor Series 2012. Protected in the right way, The Shield made an impact and revolutionised the 6 man tag team match. Following, United States and Tag team title reigns the Shield were on top. A cracking 2 match feud with Evolution, nothing could stop the Shield. Other than from within; and that is exactly what Seth Rollins did. Turning his back on his Shield brethren splitting the trio up and capturing the Money In The Bank briefcase in the process.

Being the “Big Guy”, Reigns was heavily pushed as the breakout star of the group; winning the Royal Rumble in January 2015. Roman challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE championship at WrestleMania 31. In a huge shocker, Seth Rollins interrupted the match making it an impromptu triple threat, walking out Champion.

Given the intertwined feuds, 2015’s Payback saw the first glimpse of the three Shield brothers in a match. A fatal four-way with Randy Orton also involved. During the match, all three members teamed up to take out Orton in a short reunion, however Rollins retained the title. Something he did until his ACL injury in November.

Romans Capitalises

Roman Reigns captured the vacant title at Survivor Series, several title changes later, he regained the championship at WrestleMania 32. Fast forward to Money In The Bank, Seth Rollins pins Roman Reigns to win the championship, only to lose it minutes later to Dean Ambrose. On Raw, a number one contenders match was made between Reigns and Rollins. A match which ended in a double count out. A determined Dean challenged both men to a triple threat match at WWE Battleground.

Anyone who owns the incredible Shield Blu Ray documentary, a triple threat between these three is an extra taken place in FCW. The fact, after years of holding off and teasing the possibility, we will see what the former Shield brothers can do inside the ring.
