OSR: WWE Money in the Bank 2015 Review

It is very difficult to believe that this event was only year ago, so much has changed in such a short amount of time within the WWE that it is almost completely unrecognizable to how it was. In the WWE world, The Authority was still very much at the top of the company and Seth Rollins was enjoying a fruitful reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. But this event was marked by the sudden death of Dusty Rhodes just before, leaving the WWE locker room and Universe devastated. Despite being only a year ago, the recollection of the event is exceptionally vague, so the OSR looks back with the Money in the Bank 2015 Review…

The opening for the show opens with a memorandum to the late Dusty Rhodes, and the poignant 10-bell salute as the fans chant “Dusty” before his theme of “American Dream” is played for probably one of the final and most moving times. It then turns to the opening package which looks at the MITB match…one spot, one view but how it is also dangerous and endurance test. It then shows what can be achieved in cashing in the briefcase before the intense feud which has being established by Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins is shown, but also the newbie Kevin Owens and John Cena. This in all honesty is a bit simple for my liking and doesn’t portray a lot of imagination. We then go inside the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio with our commentators for the evening Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry Lawler before we quickly go to the first match of the evening.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match Contract: Randy Orton vs. Neville vs. Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/ Lana) vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus vs. Roman Reigns

Each of the participants make their way to the ring, none of which receive a particularly great reaction from those in attendance. The match soon enough gets underway, and unfortunately is contested in a very similar style to every other MITB match we have seen so ultimately there isn’t anything different and is effectively contested as a series of one-on-one contests. Most of the participants get to demonstrate their finisher at some point throughout the match and go for the near finish. When it looks like the victory is going to Roman Reigns, suddenly Bray Wyatt appears and takes him out, pushing him off the ladder and nailing him with the Sister Abigail. This allows Sheamus to scale the ladder and capture the briefcase to become the Mr MITB 2015 in a match which I can only describe as average.

Winner: Sheamus

Match Rating: 2.0 out of 5.0 Stars

WWE Diva’s Championship: Nikki Bella (c) vs. Paige

Paige is shown being interviewed by Renee Young backstage where she talks about taking down the Bella empire but how none of the other Diva’s have come forward to offer her assistance, before they both make their way to the ring as a video clip is shown of a switch Nikki pulled with Brie in a match, to allow her to pick up the victory over Paige. The match gets underway, and after some initial back and forth action Nikki is able to regain the control on the outside with a variety of moves which will do damage to the back. The match continues with Nikki in control albeit with some comeback efforts from Paige. The end of the match comes when the Bella’s perform the twin magic switch once again but Paige picks up the pinfall over Brie. This causes the match to continue, and Nikki to make her way back into the ring and take out a distracted Paige to pick up the win in a really credible divas match.

Winner: Nikki Bella, to retain the WWE Diva’s Championship

Match Rating: 2.5 out of 5.0 Stars
