Official: Cody Rhodes released by WWE

Cody Rhodes released by WWE

The speculation has being being bubbling all following his request to be released, and an apparent walkout on SmackDown with his brother Goldust, it has now being officially confirmed by WWE.com that they have come to terms with the release of Cody Rhodes. This really hasn’t come as a surprise amid all the speculation, but it is deeply unfortunate that an exceptionally gifted performer in and out of the ring, a man who took the Stardust gimmick and made it his own has being let go without a fight.

We can understand that Cody may have had his reasons for wanting to be let go, but in all honesty he has being massively wasted as a talent because he has being able to captivate the audiences imagination with whatever gimmick he was given, whether it be Stardust or “Dashing” Cody Rhodes. He was signed to the WWE in 2006, and was quickly sent to their developmental base at the time, Ohio Valley Wrestling. He didn’t last long down there though, as he quickly progressed to the main roster appearing alongside his father Dusty Rhodes in 2007 opposite Randy Orton. He later went onto become a part of Legacy alongside Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase Jr, a faction made up of second and third generation superstars.

Throughout his time in the WWE, he became a multi-time Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion but it was his feud which propelled him into the spotlight in 2015 which he became most acclaimed. The feud was with none other than Stephen Amell which resulted in the pair facing off against one another in a tag team match at SummerSlam of that year. Exceptionally gifted in many ways, Cody is in a fortunate enough position where he is able to forge a career for himself elsewhere where he can become the star he truly deserves. From everyone here at WDD, we would like to wish Cody the absolute best of luck in the next stage of his career and look forward to seeing what he does next.
