WWE Payback 2016 Predictions

With less than a day to go until Payback 2016, everything is now seemingly set in stone about what we can expect to see on the show. The card is very different to the one seen at WrestleMania 32, nearly every match, if not all of them, features a superstar who was once a part of NXT. This is the beginning of showing how NXT is truly beginning to revolutionize the way WWE works. But then there is the simple matter of who should win what on the show, because some of them seem very open ended whereas other seem very much a closed book. Here is the WDD Payback 2016 Predictons;

Pre-Show: WWE United States Championship: Kalisto (c) vs. Ryback

Dave: Well, let’s face it for this title to be defended for the second month in the row on a pre-show completely diminishes the importance of this championship. As much as I will hate it, I can see Ryback capturing the title and Kalisto descending down the ranks.

Lucas: Kalisto has done exceptionally well with the championship but he has held it far longer than anyone anticipated. The Big Guy really needs a high profile win so that is where I can see this going.

1. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy vs. The Vaudevillains: Aiden English and Simon Gotch

Dave: With these both being new teams, I cannot really determine who has the most momentum going into this match. In all honesty, I cannot see the Vaudevillains gimmick lasting long in the WWE. I suppose for this reason alone, it will be Enzo and Cassidy winning.

Lucas: I was actually shocked to see VaudeVillians overcome the Usos fairly easy. No doubt both men are talented guys but the gimmick will be difficult to catch on. Once you’ve seen it that’s it. Personally the thought of a mic battle between Enzo and New Day is pretty exciting. The logical way to book this is for a VaudeVillians win; otherwise they will falter and slip through the cracks Ascension style.

2. Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

Dave: In all honesty, it makes a whole lot of sense for Corbin to pick up the win, because if he doesn’t he will falter through the ranks. Whilst a loss would ultimately harm Ziggler, it would have a much more detrimental affect on Corbin.

Lucas: I am really happy to see Corbin on the main roster following his debut, and logically it makes perfect sense for Corbin to pick up the win. If he loses, then I cannot see where he can go from here.

3. WWE Women’s Championship: Charlotte (c) (w/ Ric Flair) vs. Natalya (w/ Bret Hart)

Dave: Sadly, because Natalya won their match on RAW just the other week, then I foresee Charlotte retaining the championship with a controversial finish. But for old times sake, I’d like to see Bret take out Flair and if it is permanently so he isn’t a hindrance to Charlotte, even better.

Lucas: Nattie’s and Charlotte’s NXT encounter last year was immense, followed up by a great match at Roadblock. Sadly as much as Nattoe deserves it Charlotte will retain the championship.

4. Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens

Dave: I am really looking forward to this match, it has the potential to be one of the best matches on the card. Now, I’d really like Sami to win this match because he really needs a strong win to establish himself on the main roster but it needs to happen without damaging the momentum of Kevin Owens. Therefore, I see Owens winning.

Lucas: Sami and Kevin never disappointed in NXT, the same will continue on the main roster. No doubt we will see Sami being beaten down for most of the match, however I can see Zayn winning.

5. Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose

Dave: This match is far too long overdue, but that in an essence adds to the beauty of it. This should be an absolutely incredible match as long as they go at it for 25 minutes. They need this time to tell the story in the ring properly…a 10-minute match won’t cut it. But for pure common sense, Ambrose to win the match cleanly.

Lucas: A match originally scheduled for WrestleMania, Jericho and Ambrose will steal the show, enough said. Give them enough time and we could easily see a match of the year candidate. Ambrose will walk out the winner.

6. WWE Intercontinental Championship: The Miz (c) (w/ Maryse) vs. Cesaro

Dave: The Miz has being on fire since he has had Maryse at his side. He doesn’t need her but she adds a lot to his character. I am a massive fan of both men, Cesaro is an exceptional talent. I’d like Cesaro to win unless there is something in the bigger picture for him, which makes me sway towards The Miz winning.

Lucas: Maryse has added another well needed dimension to The Miz character, as IC champion The Miz has a good chance of re-establishing himself as a upper card player. A returning Cesaro needs a strong showing to help him propel into a feud with Roman Reigns (wishful thinking). The Miz will retain.

7. WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles

Dave: Sadly, the champion of this match is abundantly obvious at the moment…it will be Roman Reigns. AJ could do with the win, but he doesn’t need the championship quite yet in the WWE. Roman, on the other hand does to maintain the position he is in. I can see AJ winning, but via DQ with interference from Gallows and Anderson.

Lucas: Just three months since making his debut at the Royal Rumble AJ Styles will get his chance at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. What makes this match even more interesting is the Gallows/Anderson factor. AJ Styles has denied any involvement behind the attack; no doubt they will be involved somehow. AJ should continue to deny any involvement, whilst Gallows and Anderson continue to “help” Styles. AJ will lose against Reigns however the big talking point is the aftermath of the match.

What do you think of the WDD Payback Predictions…are we on the mark with some of them or in another planet, who do you think will shine on the card? We’d love to know what you think!
