WCW Month: 15 Years On…

15 Years On…

Who can believe it, March 2016 marks 15 Years since World Championship Wrestling aka WCW Closed it Doors and bought an end a wrestling tradition which had existed since the 1940s. The company which made legends out of Ric Flair, Sting and Goldberg to name but a few was simply no more. I remember watching the final episode of WCW Monday Nitro vividly as a viewer. It was a very somber affair, featuring your favourite WCW Stars going at it on their home turf for the final time. In a fitting closure, WCW closed its doors with one last battle between Ric Flair and Sting…

How you remember WCW is up to you, for this editor it was my first introduction to wrestling with my earliest memory being WCW Monday Nitro in 1998 when The Giant choke slammed Diamond Dallas Page through the stage. Strange that this specific memory has stayed with me for nearly 20 years. I can safely say that I was a WCW Guy until they closed their doors…watching Nitro on a Friday Night on TNT was a prominent fixture for me. But, surprisingly until the onset of the WWE Network I’d never seen a WCW pay-per-view completely. Whilst the final couple of years in WCW featured some questionable moments, it has ultimately gave us those moments we can still talk about to this day. So, 15 years on it seems appropriate that we celebrate WCW.

In the next few weeks up until March 26 2016, we shall be talking everything WCW from everything including greatest superstars to most WTF moments. But between myself and Lucas, we have being delving into the WCW archives and revisiting moments we’d thought were forgotten. In the first edition of WCW Months Old School Review, we shall be going back to Slamboree 1993: A Legends Reunion showcased by Davey Boy Smith versus Big Van Vader. Lets reminisce about everything that made WCW great, not what WWE has made it out to be…
