Does anyone remember when Sami Zayn erupted the fans at the Royal Rumble as he entered the match eliminating Kevin Owens from the match? Well WWE forgotten about it, however that might just change very soon. Based upon the latest rumour from the Observer, it looks like Sami Zayn is booked to compete at WrestleMania 32 next month and will be part of the European tour a few weeks later.
Whilst this is only rumour at the moment, the only thought right now is about time. Given that Sami is out of the NXT title picture and is set to face Shinsuke Nakamura in his debut match for the company at NXT Takeover: Dallas. Having another match the following night at WrestleMania isn’t too far off a good shout. Now Sami did get called up to the main roster last year; in fact he answered John Cena’s challenge on Raw in a brilliant match. Shoulder injury cut any possibility of any credible run extremely short. Someone Kevin Owens got given the nod for instead.
Sami returned to NXT just after NXT Takeover: London in December and has appeared on NXT since. Other than that Royal Rumble appearance a short 6 weeks ago, which WWE never mentioned again. Let’s be honest alot happened at the Rumble event which never saw the light of day after? Strange that. During the 30 man elimination match, Zayn eliminated long term rival Kevin Owens. Something which is a big deal and makes perfect sense given the current status of Kevin Owens at WrestleMania.
For weeks, Owens has been screaming and moaning how he hasn’t got a WrestleMania opponent, surely Sami is the man? WWE needs strong high profile matches and why not put NXT’s most brutal rivalry on the grandest stage of them all? WrestleMania, it makes perfect sense. With the rumours that Sami is booked to appear on the European tour in April? He has been booked for the past two years along with various other NXT talent, so that rumour isn’t exactly a surprise.
I for one, want to see Sami on the main roster, the former El Generico has been locked in NXT for many years now and deserves the chance to shine as a top star in WWE. Alongside, Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, the indie stars are certainly paving WWE’s future. Sami Zayn at WrestleMania is a step in the right direction.
