OSR: WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 Review

WCW United States Championship: Konnan (c) vs. Ric Flair (w/ Miss Elizabeth and Woman)

Both men make their way to the ring, and Flair shakes hands with Konnan as the match gets underway. The match is really well contested, with Konnan in control in the early moments. It remains this way until Woman gets involved nailing Konnan with a low blow. This allows Flair to gain control of the match, and executes a whole series of traditional wrestling moves. There are a couple of sloppy moments, but as a whole it is really well paced out and competed by both men. Konnan soon enough gains control again, but he is soon enough attacked by Woman again with her shoe. This allows Flair to pick up the win in a great wrestling match, with a modern twist.

Winner: Ric Flair, to capture the WCW United States Championship

Match Rating: 3.5 out of 5.0 Stars

We go backstage to Okerlund, outside The Outsiders locker room where they are apparently with the third man but cannot make out who it is. He really is speculating who it is, even though he says he seems familiar. Heenan tries to get him to bribe the coppers, but Okerlund accuses him of trying to get him in trouble. We then return to the arena for the next match of the evening.

Chris Benoit and Arn Anderson vs. The Giant and Kevin Sullivan (w/ Jimmy Hart)

Benoit and Anderson make their way to the ring, but are quickly attacked by The Giant and Sullivan on their way to the ring. Mongo soon makes an appearance again, attacking The Giant who disappears after him. The match initially gets underway as a handicap match, but The Giant soon rejoins the action. The match is essentially contested as Benoit and Anderson versus Sullivan, who takes the beating. Eventually, The Giant is tagged in and is able to pick up the win when he pins Anderson. In the mean time, Benoit and Sullivan continue brawling all over the place, before and after the match. Eventually, Woman makes her way to the ring and pleads with Benoit to stop. He fails to listen to her until The Giant chases him off. The Giant then carries Sullivan out of the arena. What should have been a quality match, was actually forgettable.

Winner: The Giant and Kevin Sullivan

Match Rating: 1.5 out of 5.0 Stars
