World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) (w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) vs. Jack Swagger (w/ Zeb Colter)
Lucas: Jack Swagger, who ruined his possible great Wrestlemania moment for a brush with the law just weeks after the match was announced. Del Rio is a very talented performer but as face just didn’t make any form of sense, especially with the billing of hell USA vs face Mexico. Non the less, the build up was halted due to Jack’s law halt. The match was ok, nothing too great to really talk about, not worthy of a Wrestlemania match.
Dave: Alberto Del Rio is a very accomplished in-ring performer, but he needs someone with skill and charisma in order to bounce off otherwise he can be seen as boring. Swagger is good, but he isn’t that man. There was nothing about this match which made it interesting for me, it could have easily passed as a match on Superstars.
CM Punk (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Undertaker
Instead of someone challenging the Deadman, CM Punk won a fatal fourway match for the right to face Taker at Mania. The story took a very personal turn as Paul Bearer died in real life. WWE capitalised on this and focused on his death as the story for the match. A close fought match with several near falls saw CM Punk become the 21st victim of the streak.
Lucas: Watching this live, I loved Undertakers and CM Punk’s entrances. The silhouetted arms as the Deadman came to the ring was superb. The match was better to watch back from what i remembered. The close finishes were cleverly done and sent you on a rollercoaster of emotion.
Dave: The Undertaker’s entrance was amazing and very spooky, and Punk’s entrance with Living Color was really good. The match itself was okay, but the styles of both men for me really didn’t work well with one another and the loss for Punk did more harm than good. If anything, it made him look weak and didn’t achieve anything.
