Following the emotional induction of Macho Man Randy savage into the WWE Hall of fame last year, one key name is still omitted. That person is Owen Hart, whose career was tragically cut short in Kansas City on 23rd May 1999 at WWE Over The Edge. With the recent documentary Hart Of Gold on the young Hart Foundation member, all signs to a final resolution looked promising. Crucially will Owen Hart be inducted into the 2016 Hall Of Fame?

The WWE Hall Of Fame is a group of wrestlers and personalities who have made a positive impact on professional wrestling. Over recent years, several obviously omitted stars have finally been inducted. Triple H reached out to the Ultimate Warrior in 2013 to begin reconciliation in closing a negative chapter  An emotional Warrior buried the hatchet on all bad feelings and accepted, with the journey documented on the WWE Network. Thankfully timing couldn’t have been better. A relieved Warrior was inducted on the eve of Wrestlemania 30 only to tragically pass three nights later.

The class of 2015 was headlined by “Macho Man” Randy Savage who died back in 2011 from a motor accident. Once again due to differences and bad terms the journey to the class was difficult. Lanny Poffo wanted the family inducted if Randy was too. Once again discussions allowed Randy to be inducted on his own merit. Finally terms were agreed to and the Macho Man was entered into the Hall Of Fame on his own.

There are some key omissions from the Hall Of Fame; some for obvious reasons and other trivial. Owen Hart is one of these men, whose induction rests on the hands of his widowed wife Martha. According to NODQ.com, WWE officials have been working hard with the Hart family to induct Owen into the Hall Of Fame. However Martha is firmly against this, who firmly believes that WWE are responsible for his death in 1999.

On 23rd May 1999 during a live PPV broadcast, Owen Hart fell over 30 feet from the rafters of the arena landing onto the turnbuckle. The cause was deemed as a failure on his harness. Upon impact complications caused Owen to lose his life a short hour later. The journey over the past 17 years have been tough for the Hart family, particularly with his brother Bret Hart, who felt betrayed over the Montreal Screw Job incident and also blamed WWE for the incident. Time passed, Bret and Vince McMahon patched up all differences along with the majority of the family.

It is a shame, only last week Smith Hart confirmed the speculation that Owen will not be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame 2016 who posted the following onto his Facebook Page.

I just got off the phone with my brother Bret, who called to wish me well. In talking to Bret, I can confirm that WWE will NOT be inducting Owen, Davey, Blue Blazer or even as Bret and I suggested, of inducting the entire Hart Foundation as a unit this year in Dallas for their fictional Hall of Fame. This once again proves that WWE’s Hall of Fame is nothing more than profiteering, grandstanding and political BS. It’s a shame, not only for the fans that still fill my inbox annually holding hope, but also for WWE as the task of filling 100,000 plus into Jerry’s world seems near impossible with their vastly depleted roster and horrible creative direction. A Hart Foundation induction on its own would not fill the stadium, but I’m sure would help more than the proposed inductions of The Godfather, Jacqueline or JBL (with all due respect). The reason given for the lack of an Owen induction is still our former Sister in law, Martha who still holds a grudge as if the tragedy happened days ago. Personally, I wouldn’t blame Bret or anyone in my family if they boycotted this year’s show.

Majority of fans are in firm belief that Owen Hart deserves to be alongside his brother Bret in the Hall Of Fame. His career was cut short and would have thrived in WWE in 2002 and beyond. Whilst it seems like Owen Hart will not join the WWE hall of legends; time will only tell if he eventually and rightfully is added.
