The Royal Rumble is only a few short days away and lets be honest, this year is either going to be predictable or a complete shocker. With the added swerve ball of Roman Reigns defending his WWE World Heavyweight Title into the mix sadly only makes things easier yet harder to predict who will win. Luckily betting companies have been happily taking punters money and we have the favourites and pure silly outsiders here at Wrestling Dirty Deeds.
This Sunday will see for the second time in its 28 year history that the WWE Title is up for grabs in the Rumble match. The only other time was when Ric Flair secured the vacant WWE title in 1992. Mixed in with his feud with the McMahon’s Reigns has been forced to defend the championship from the number one spot.
Various reports have been circulating the Internet of who will walk out the Royal Rumble as WWE World Heavyweight champion. Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt have all had rumours that they will walk out the champion. Things change on an hourly basis in WWE so lets take these reports by a pinch of salt.
What we can use to make a more of an educated guess is the book makers. In the last couple of years people have been able to bet on Wrestling; yes it is fake hence the odds are normally very short. With the Royal Rumble being so wide open we can get a good idea on who the favourites might be.
Based upon Irish bookmakers Paddypower.com, we have a list of all the possible superstars (and *cough* celebrities) you can place your hard earned cash on to win the Rumble match. The full list are found in the table below; I quite like England’s football captain Wayne Rooney having the same odds as Donald Trump winning.
Triple H is currently leading as favourite to win the Rumble match. This makes alot of sense, he was speared out of action by Reigns and the perfect man to prevent Reigns from walking out as champion. Up next is Reigns himself; followed by Brock Lesnar and Bray Wyatt. The Eater Of Worlds has shot up the odds in the past few days, due to the way Raw ended. Normally this is a red herring to make someone else appear like they will win the gold.
Beyond these four you have Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose; however due to their Last Man Standing match, it wouldn’t make any sense for them to compete in the Rumble match at all. Looking further down the table Sheamus is 25/1 (£/$26 return for a £/$1 bet) as is the rumoured to debut AJ Styles. Finn Balor, who has been in the news recently with AJ Styles has interesting odds as well.
Quite simply, other than HHH, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, it is anyone’s guess. The safe but predictable bet would be on Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar to win the match. I fear WWE wins will expect far too much from the match and let themselves down again. If you are a wishful person tread your bets carefully.
These odds are correct as of 21/01/16 and likely to change. Please bet responsibly within your own legal boundaries.
