2015 Review: Best Debuts Of 2015

Kevin Owens NXT Champion

2015 has seen various superstars move from the developmental roster in NXT to the main roster. Whilst, we haven’t seen the sheer number of stars make the jump this year, we have seen several future stars shine out and breakout on the main roster. Today we look back at 5 of 2015 best debut years.

For the record if he hadn’t gotten injured in his debut against John Cena‘ Sami Zayn would have likely taken the number one spot.

5. Lucha Dragons

In NXT the Lucha Dragon caught on like wild fire; The Lucha Dragons made their debut the night after Wrestlemania. Following the dismal introduction of the Ascension, all hopes seemed low for the Luchas. Whilst the steam faded fairly quickly, the Lucha Dragons managed to pick up momentum towards the end of the year facing New Day for the tag titles and competing in the incredible Ladder match at TLC which saw Kalisto deliver the most insane bump ever seen off the top of the ladder. #LuchaLuchaLucha

4. Sasha Banks

The self-proclaimed Boss Sasha Banks took NXT by storm; including an intense rivalry with Bailey which main evented NXT Takeover:Respect in October. Sasha made her main roster Debut as part of the Diva Revolution in June this year. Sasha teamed with Naomi and Tamina and provided the key cornerstone in delivering great matches with the likes of Becky, Charlotte, Paige and Natalya. Whilst, the latter end of 2015 was all about Charlotte and Paige, Sasha shown that she can take the Diva’s division by storm.

3. Neville

As the year comes to a close it is easy to suggest that the former Pac has got lost in the shuffle. Whilst he was never going straight to the main event Neville has always managed to find himself in high profile matches and delivered some high flying action back to WWE. He teamed up with Stephen Armell at Summerslam and faced Seth Rollins for the WWE Heavyweight title on Raw. At the Slammy’s Neville was awarded Superstar of the year. One final thing, that Red Arrow is breathtaking every-time.

2. Charlotte

Lets face it, 2014 was Paiges year, 2015 was Charlotte’s. Debuting as part of the Diva’s revolution, Charlotte stood tall and a true female wrestler alongside Paige. Her dream came true at Hell In A Cell ending Nikki Bellas 11 month reign as champion. Her feud with Paige in the later end of the year has been incredible.

1. Kevin Owens

WWE struck gold when they signed Kevin Steen in 2014, he made his mark in NXT becoming champion on his first attempt with only 6 weeks behind him. Several classic matches with Sami Zayn later and we move to June.

With Sami finally making his main roster debut against John Cena in Montreal it looked like he would get the push. Injury halted this and Kevin Owens capitalised. In his WWE debut he beat the poster boy John Cena at Elimination Chamber. Three matches later and less than a year in, Kevin Owens made his mark. He beat Ryback at Summerslam to become Intercontinental champion and if rumours are true he is being groomed to take on Brock Lesnar. Watch this space 2016 will be Owens year.
