OSR: WWE Survivor Series 1995 Review

Survivor Series 1995 saw the end of a near year long experiment for Diesel as champion. He didn’t really have a great run with the title at all, his only decent matches were against Bret Hart at the Rumble and Michaels at Wrestlemania. WWE did decide to shake up the Survivor Series by having a wild card match, a mixture of faces and heels on each team which proved to be pretty decent. WWE also tried their best at humour by having “Bill Clinton” appear at the show.
Survivor Series Eight Man Tag Team Elimination Match
The Body Donnas (Rad Radford, Skip, The 1-2-3 Kid & Tom Prichard) (w/Sunny & Ted DiBiase) vs The Underdogs (Barry Horowitz, Bob Holly,Hakushi & Marty Jannetty)
A fast paced opening match to kick of Survivor Series. Going into the match The 1-2-3 Kid had joined Ted DiBiase, as a result was being pushed. A fairly decent match with some nice spots considering the time. The 1-2-3 Kid eliminates Marty Jannetty to become the sole survivor. Throughout the match, we see several clips of Razor Ramone, who flips out when the 1-2-3 Kid wins the match.
Survivor: The 1-2-3 Kid
Match Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
Survivor Series Eight Man Tag Team Elimination Match
Alundra Blayze, Chaparita Asari, Kyoko Inoue & Sakie Hasegawa vs Aja Kong, Bertha Faye, Lioness Asuka & Tomoko Watanabe (w/Harvey Wippleman)
At this time, WWE had really spent time building up the Women’s division. Alundre Blayze stood tall for two years producing really good matches with the likes of Bull Nakano. Okay Bertha Faye ruined that momentum but hey…. Mixed with a talent share with New Japan, we saw 8 top female wrestlers battle it out. The match came down to Alundra vs Tomoko, Bertha and AJA. Alundra did well eliminate Tomoko and Bertha, however was pinned by AJA Kong. This would have set up a rivalary between the two over the title, however due to Alundra jumping ship to WCW a few short weeks later this never happened, and until the NXT resergance, Women’s wrestling has struggled since.
Survivor: Aja Kong
Goldust vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Goldust had only just burst onto the scene of WWE; this mis-match of characters faced off at Survivor Series. During Bam Bam explosive entrance, Bill Clinton had a heart stopping moment when the explosion sent the “President” into a state of shock…. really? The match was pretty short at just 8 minutes, with Goldust picking up the win. This would be the last time we saw Bam Bam in a WWE ring.
Match Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Survivor Series Eight Man Tag Team Elimination Match
The Dark Side (Fatu, Henry O. Godwinn, Savio Vega & The Undertaker) (w/Paul Bearer) vs The Royals (Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Isaac Yankem DDS, Jerry Lawler & King Mabel) (w/Sir Mo)
Following several weeks of absence thanks to his nose being broken by Mabel the Undertaker returned to be part of Team The Dark Side. The Royals got destroyed by The Undertaker, with the Deadman single handed eliminating the entire team to complete a clean sweep.
Survivors: Fatu, Henry O. Godwinn, Savio Vega & The Undertaker
Match Rating: 2 out of 5 – The match was purely designed to make Undertaker look stupidly strong. It was what it was.
