According to PWIndsider WWE have released several NXT developmental talent. The most notable is former Nexus member Mason Ryan and the daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero, Shaul Guerrero. Other names to be released include, Danny Burch and Oliver Grey.
Welshman Barri Grittiths signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2009, making his Florida Championship Wrestling debut in January 2010. Later on in July he became FCW Florida Heavyweight Champion, holding the title until February 2011. Barri made his main roster debut as Mason Ryan, aligning himself with the Nexus group. The highlight of his run was teaming with CM Punk at Over The Limit 2011, challenging Big Show and Kane for the WWE Tag Team titles. Ryan, suffered an injury shortly after. Ryan returned to TV in September, turning face on the 26th September episode of Raw. Ryan was a member of Team Orton at Survivor Series 2011, being eliminated by Cody Rhodes. Mason Ryan, would return to developmental, this time in NXT. During 2013, he would undergo a long undefeated winning streak. During the number one contenders battle royal for the NXT Championship, Ryan dominated proceedings, eliminating 11 of the 18 entrants. After being with the company for 5 and not making a huge impact, it is a shame to see Mason Ryan be released.
Personally I am gutted to see Oliver Grey released from WWE. Back when I was 16, I started training to become a wrestler under the the guidance of the UK Kid. I didn’t keep the training up, however one guy in the school who stood out was Joel Pettyfer, he had a natural gift for the business, he trained extremely hard and understood the psychology of British Wrestling. Joel, made a name for himself as Joel Redman, wrestling all over the UK. As I am from Exeter, Devon, I was extremely happy to see that Exeter born Joel signed a developmental deal with the WWE in 2012. Oliver debuted on NXT in September, losing to Kassius Ono. At the turn of 2013, Oliver started teaming with fellow Brit Adrian Neville, becoming the inaugural NXT Tag Team champions. Shortly after Oliver suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and was out of action for 9 months Oliver returned to action at the turn of 2014. It is very sad to see Joel released and wish him all the best.
It is not a great day for British wrestling, as the third guy to be released is Londoner Danny Burch. Danny was trained under Frontier Wrestling Academy, making a name as Martin Stone. Impressing in the UK, WWE signed Danny to a developmental deal in 2011 and began training in June 2012. Danny made his NXT debut in May 2013, losing to Bray Wyatt. Danny would make several NXT TV tapings, usually in losing fashion.
The final person reported to be released is a very surprising one. Shaul Guerrero, who had been renamed as Raquel Diaz. Shaul is a second generation star, being the daughter of the Eddie and Vickie Guerrero. He signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2010, training with FCW. She became the longest reigning FCW Diva’s Champion with a reign of 197 days, as well as being the Queen of FCW at one point. In September 2012, Shaul requested a release from her contract. Shaul returned to WWE developmental a year later this time renamed as Raquel Diaz.
It is currently unknown any of the reasons behind the four developmental releases.
